'Robot' opens Sarasota

A pair of Sundance alums will bookend the 14th annual edition of Florida's Sarasota Film Festival, which kicks off next month with "Robot and Frank." The Frank Langella starrer had its world preem earlier this year at Sundance, where it was picked up by Samuel Goldwyn Films and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions. Sarasota's closing night offering, doc "Under African Skies," also bowed at Sundance. The A&E Indie Films release centers on Paul Simon's "Graceland" and the political criticism it attracted. Centerpiece offering at Sarasota is "Dark Horse," Todd Solondz' movie about a schlub who falls for a woman he meets at a wedding. Jordan Gelber and Selma Blair star with a cast that includes Mia Farrow and Christopher Walken. Sarasota Film Festival runs April 13-22. Contact Gordon Cox at gordon.cox@variety.com
